Thermae Cafe in Bangkok, Thailand

I'm sure by now, many of you guys have heard about Thermae Cafe in Bangkok, Thailand. And if you haven't, the Thermae freelancer bar is why it's good to know about this "cafe" in Bangkok.

Thermae Cafe is located on Sukhumvit road, which is Bangkok's famous tourist street. It's between the Nana BTS and Asok BTS stations.

The Thermae freelancer bar is in the basement of the well known Ruamchitt Plaza Hotel, which is a guest friendly hotel in Bangkok and also known to be a short time hotel. Most guys take a freelancer girl from Thermae to one of the upstairs rooms for some action.

In the evenings, starting around 8:00pm, you will find the majority of freelancer girls working at Thermae Cafe Bar. The girls will be inside and outside by the stairs leading into the hotel. And this continues well into the night. It's not uncommon to see girls working outside after the bar closes for the night. They will wait for potential customers to walk by, in hopes of making some extra money.

Inside the cafe is an interesting experience, to say the least. You will find many Thai women lined up, sitting at the tables, or waiting at the bar for customers to pick them up. And the great thing is there's usually a great selection of freelancer girls working here. Thermae gets quite busy, especially due to their many Asian (Korean, Japanese, Chinese) clients.

Of course, it wouldn't be complete if I don't mention the prices, and I know many guys are curious about the costs involved with freelancers. Here is what you can expect:
  • Short Time - Around 1,500 to 2,500 THB
  • Long Time - From 3,000 THB upwards to 10,000 THB
Keep in mind, the price depends on the girl and whether or not she is interested in you. Yes, I know it's mostly about money, but it can make a difference. Why? Because if she also likes you, she will go with you for the lower end of the prices. And if she doesn't want to go with you, she will give you a higher price or reject you. But generally speaking, those are the prices to expect.

Is there quality control at Thermae compared to street freelancers?
I believe the only quality control is Thermae tends to not allow ladyboys into the downstairs bar. The ladyboys will remain on the street outside of the hotel.

The girls entering the downstairs bar have to pay a fee to the bar to be there.

But the girls will use their own discretion to decide if they want to go with you.

Many of the girls prefer Asian clients.

Thanks for telling us about Thermae. I've heard of this freelancer bar, but have not been. How much are the rooms upstairs?

I was in Bangkok a couple weeks ago, and most of the working freelancers on Line wanted around 3000 THB for short time.

And the full service massage places at Sukhumvit 24 wanted 2200 THB for 60 minutes, and 2600 THB for 90 minutes with 2 shots.

The adjacent/upstairs hotel is the Ruamchitt hotel. I stayed there on my 1st trip to BKK and i regretted it. The room was small and dirty, and my brand new pair of Nikes were taken by housekeeping/hotel management while i was out mongering with travel buddies. The room cost me about $30, but i later found out there were nicer and cheaper hotels in that area for less. I booked it out of sheer convenience to the Thermae Cafe.

3000 baht for short time is too high. I've gone for as low as 1000 baht and as high as 2000 baht for ST. Market rate is about 1500 baht.

For LT, i've paid 3000-4000 baht. The exchange rates are not favorable to the Pound or the Dollar right now. Last time i was there in BKK, the exchange rate was 41 to 1 USD. Currently, it is 32.5 to 1 USD. Basically, lost 30% purchasing power or paying roughly 30% more for "same same" these days.

Vietnam and Cambodia is where it is at for value. Add Hong Kong for $60-$70 but that rate is for 30 minutes in a building. Freelancer ST in BKK is 1-2 hours.

I prefer freelancers at my place/hotel.

When were you getting $41 to 1 USD?

I know of no time in at least the last 10 years that it hit 41 to 1.

35-36 for a short time in 2015 but never 41.
Perhaps you were talking about the uk pound rather than usd

During the Asian currency crisis in 1997.

July 1997–December 1998. A financial crisis started in Thailand in July 1997 and spread across East Asia, wreaking havoc on economies in the region and leading to spillover effects in Latin America and Eastern Europe in 1998. On July 2, 1997, Thailand devalued its currency relative to the US dollar.

From 1985 to 1996, Thailand's economy grew at an average of over 9% per year, the highest economic growth rate of any country at the time. Inflation was kept reasonably low within a range of 3.4–5.7%.[30] The baht was pegged at 25 to the U.S. dollar.

On 14 May and 15 May 1997, the Thai baht was hit by massive speculative attacks. On 30 June 1997, Prime Minister Chavalit Yongchaiyudh said that he would not devalue the baht. However, Thailand lacked the foreign reserves to support the USD–Baht currency peg, and the Thai government was eventually forced to float the Baht, on 2 July 1997, allowing the value of the Baht to be set by the currency market. This caused a chain reaction of events, eventually culminating into a region-wide crisis.[31]

Thailand's booming economy came to a halt amid massive layoffs in finance, real estate, and construction that resulted in huge numbers of workers returning to their villages in the countryside and 600,000 foreign workers being sent back to their home countries.[32] The baht devalued swiftly and lost more than half of its value. The baht reached its lowest point of 56 units to the U.S. dollar in January 1998. The Thai stock market dropped 75%. Finance One, the largest Thai finance company until then, collapsed.[33]

@cooler07 Totally agree with your pricing

@Logan There's a Hyatt Regency just a few steps down from Thermae that has very reasonable rates most of the year.

Last time i was there in BKK, the exchange rate was 41 to 1 USD.
@DucNguyen If the last time you were there was in 1997 during the financial crisis, then the prices you remember are likely outdated as well. Girls at Thermae want minimum 2500 for ST and it goes up from there. I am in my 30's, Asian and speak conversational Thai. None of the girls in the last few years have ever accepted less than that, at least not the ones that I was interested in. Not trying to call you out, only suggesting you might want to maintain a little perspective.

So you are saying you have not been there for 22 years?

Yes I suppose things have changed since than.

LOL I have no words.

I suppose prices have gone up since i last went. But i have friends who have been to BKK within this 2019, and though prices have risen (asking), there are plenty of freelancers willing to go ST for 1500 baht. Actually, an expat i keep email and phone convo who lives in Siam tells me that BKK hasn't changed all that much as the supply is and will always be there. The expats are leaving.

Sure, you can get freelancers for 1000-1500 Baht on the street. I think you pay a premium for Thermae because they ensure no ladyboys get in and make sure the girls sit there and not give you the hard sell that most streetwalkers do. If your friends are getting those prices at Thermae I'd be very surprised.

Having said that, I totally agree with your sentiment that Thailand - or at least Bangkok - is in a bubble. Was at Pimp Club earlier this year and as the lights came on the hostess girl quoted my friend 10,000 Baht (ST) with no shame. I'm sure another reckoning will come, but at this point, value has mostly been priced out of BKK.

I think we're confusing freelancers outside the Thermae Cafe and those loitering around the front of Ruamchitt. I usually find plenty of FLs along Nana and down to Phong Phrom. As for Thermae, i never knew there was a cost to us johns except for buying a drink in there.

When i went to Thermae, i didn't recall having to buy a drink. But that may have been because my friends i was meeting inside there had a beer waiting for me. Every freelancer i've found were on the street in front of my hotels except for 2 i hooked up with at the Thermae. There was 1 other club in BKK that had freelancers galore, but i believe they are no longer in business.

I find picking up freelancers easier and better in SGN. Too many ladyboys in BKK, and the negotiating takes the fun out of it. I've had to start later in the night when the prices tend to come down during low season. But low season isn't that much different in BKK as compared to low season in Vietnam or other parts of SE Asia.

Freelancers predominantly roam this area but some as far down as Phrom Phong, where i usually get a daily massage.

All i know is during the Asian currency crisis and in 1998-2000 (during my 1st time traveling extensively all over Thailand), my 2 friends and i had ST for $20 and LT for $40. We had the pick of all the girls at some of these soapies and gogo bars, because there was hardly anyone there.

I remember we were dining at a 5-star restaurant in Chiang Mai, and we were the only ones there. The food was amazing, and adjacent to that restaurant was a complex that had over 300 rooms inside a 5 story tower. We were the only ones there and after our multi-hour sessions, we were given fruits and they didn't want us to leave so we karaoke'd with them for free. Needless to say, i tipped them well for all of us out of gratitude.

If Thailand's ruling junta isn't careful, and the U.S. China tariff war continues, and/or Chinese tourism slows down in Thailand, or foreign investment wanes, which it will anyway, then we might see a redux.

Thailand is an export-dependent country. And Siam is also a tourism-based economy.

As always, Time will tell.

Just hooked up with 2 different girls from the Thermae. Some girls were asking up to 7000 baht for LT.

I had 1 LT girl who spoke full English. She told me lady boys cant work Thermae because they check all girls IDs. So the biz model at Thermae is all girls, which is an excellent no BS biz model.

ST was going for asking price 3000 baht. Some will still go for 1500-2000, depending on how early or late the night is and their quality.

Top tier girls, usually the 5-10 hottest out of the oval bar room of 100-150 girls, still ask for and can get 3000 baht ($100 USD) for ST. 7000 is lofty, but if you some confidence, cleanliness, and humorous game, they will eat your dick at your hotel for 5000 baht.

It's all supply and demand, which appears to be equal in the Thermae.

Edited: I was able to shoot a personal porno session with the English speaking Thai hottie, and can show some of you guys in person or upload it somewhere discreet.
